For 25 years Healthforce Center at UCSF has been developing leaders, disseminating policy-driven research and helping health care professionals across the country navigate change. In 2017, navigating change is more important than ever as health leaders face significant opportunities, and ambiguity, in today’s rapidly shifting health care environment:
- Policy Uncertainty: Coverage for the more than 23 million people who gained insurance under the Affordable Care Act is in jeopardy.
- Growth of Digital Health: The proliferation of smart phones, tablets and the Internet of Things is transforming health care delivery. The digital health industry is expected to surpass $379 billion by 2024.
- Silver Tsunami: As baby boomers enter their mid 60s (the “silver tsunami”), more Americans will require long-term care (LTC), both at home and in the community.
- Continued Job Growth: Employment of health care occupations is projected to grow 19 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than other occupations, adding about 2.3 million new jobs.
