About This Event
In this CalAIM era, health care and social service organizations need to partner to address complex health and social needs through a more integrated and people-centered approach to care. These partnerships can often uncover power dynamics that limit effective collaboration and progress towards health equity goals if left unaddressed.
The California Improvement Network (CIN) is a learning and action network comprised of health and social service organizations that are at the forefront of CalAIM implementation. In response to the demands of CalAIM implementation and CIN partners’ desire to uplift power differentials, CIN formed an advisory group of CIN partners to design a convening that explores the power differentials that exist in these partnerships and identify solutions and improvements. Thus, this convening is designed by individuals in partnerships that advance health for those in similar partnerships. The efforts of the advisory group were supported by the program office and two consultants with expertise in quality improvement, health care partnerships, and power building: Hunter Gatewood and AddieRose Mayer.
During this convening, participants will discuss and address complex power dynamics, including exploring strategies for power sharing to build and maintain strong partnerships and developing skills for “power with,” like shared agreements, feedback loops, and accountability. Participants will leave the convening inspired to deepen their understanding of dynamics in existing and new partnerships, all in service of improving effective coordination across California’s health care delivery system to advance health outcomes and health equity.
This one-day convening is intended for those from California social service organizations, health care organizations, and health plans who are responsible for developing, managing, and maintaining collaborative partnerships to advance health.
If possible, we highly encourage you to attend this convening with colleagues from one or more of your active partnerships. This will allow for real-time application of learnings and skills. We understand this may not be possible for various reasons, and anyone who is interested in strengthening new or existing partnerships is welcome to participate.
Please note: We will prioritize one person per organization to fill the 80 spots available. If additional space becomes available, you may be able to bring additional team members.
At the end of the convening participants will:
- Deepen understanding of the power dynamics that exist within partnerships between social service and health care organizations.
- Uplift the contributions each partner organization brings to collaborative partnerships, as a pathway to shift different forms of power.
- Identify opportunities and strategies for improving strong sustainable long-term collaborative partnerships.
- Learn and practice skills in applied collaborative partnership and power-sharing, utilizing promising practices and participant experiences.
This convening is offered to participants free of charge. Travel stipends are available to those who need them.
