The Increasing Role of Medical Assistants in Small Primary Care Physician Practice: Key Issues and Policy Implications

The purpose of this project was to understand the role of medical assistants in solo and small primary care physician practices. The study team described the background, training, and certification of medical assistants, assessed the gaps in their training, and discussed the impact these gaps may have on the quality of patient care.
